Plants shall be grown, maintained, pruned and fertilised to produce a specimen at delivery conforming to the detail and description contained in the Plant Schedule. This shall include root pruning to advanced stock for a minimum 12-week period prior to delivery to site. Rootball dimensions should be appropriate to the planter into which they will be installed. 9.6 PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE GENERALLY The plants shall be watered, fertilised, and treated for pests and diseases all as necessary to maintain continuing healthy growth. An approved pruning programme shall be carried out regularly during the Establishment Period to promote trunk and foliage canopy formation in trees all as directed by the Superintendent. All plants must have the approval of the Superintendent before delivery to site. 9.6.1 MAINTENANCE IN TRANSIT All plant material must be protected from the adverse effects of the elements during handling and transport. Plants shall be transported in fully enclosed pan technician type trucks. During transit from the nursery to the site, monitor the plants to ascertain that undue movement or disturbance is not occurring and that moisture levels are suitable to ensure plant health. 9.6.2 LOCATIONS If it appears necessary to vary plant locations and spacings to avoid service lines, or to cover the area uniformly, or for other reasons, seek approval from Superintendent before varying plant locations. 9.6.3 PLANTING CONDITIONS Do not plant in unsuitable weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, wind or rain. In other than sandy soils, suspend excavation when the soil is wet, or during frost periods. Refer to Plant Specification for palm requirements. 9.6.4 WATERING Thoroughly water the plants before planting, immediately after planting, and as required to maintain growth rates free of stress. 9.7 PLACING Remove the plant from the container with minimum disturbance to the root ball, ensure that the root ball is moist and place it in its final position, in the centre of the hole and plumb, and with the top soil level of the plant root ball level with the finished surface of the surrounding soil. 9.7.1 BACKFILLING Backfill with topsoil mixture. Lightly tamp and water to eliminate air pockets.
