Doonella – Stage C
Where root growth has been restricted in the container, the outside roots shall be lightly teased prior to
planting. Care should be taken to ensure that roots are not exposed to drying influences such as sun or
wind.

Avoid leaving air pockets in backfill by carefully firming soil progressively. Water all plants thoroughly after
planting, and for the duration of the establishment/maintenance period, to ensure the establishment of each
plant. Remove and dispose of all identification labels delivered with plant material.

Advise the Superintendent immediately, if there is any evidence of soil or drainage conditions considered
detrimental to the growth of the plant material.

Similarly, in accordance with accepted horticultural practice, planting should cease if severe adverse
weather conditions, for example dry soil, flooding, strong winds etc prevail.

9.5 PLANT CONTAINERS

9.5.1 GENERAL

Supply plants in weed-free containers of the required size.

Open rooted stock: If trees are to be supplied as open rooted stock, ensure this is appropriate to the
species, variety, size, and time of year for planting.

9.5.2 POTTING-ON

Do not carry out potting-on.

9.5.3 LABELLING

Label at least one plant of each species or variety in a batch with a durable, readable tag.

9.5.4 STORAGE

Deliver plant material to the site on a day-to-day basis, and plant immediately after delivery.

9.5.5 HARDENING OFF

All stock shall be grown in open areas, which are exposed, to the sun and wind to promote vigorous plant
growth and to harden plants off.

For a minimum of eight (8) weeks prior to delivery, all plants shall be grown in open areas receiving a
minimum time of 75% full sun. Watering and fertilising of plants shall be gradually reduced for a similar time
period leading up to delivery to aid in hardening of plants.

9.5.6 ACCLIMATISATION

If plants are being grown / propagated outside a 100km radius of Brisbane move all plant stock to a
Nursery within this radius so that the plants may become acclimatised for a period of not less than (8)
weeks prior to date of delivery. The plants must all be hardened off in accordance with the above clause.

9.5.7 SAMPLES

Root conditions of plants may be determined by removing plants from their containers and inspecting them.
Where it is decided to remove the soil from the roots of any plants, the number so disturbed will not exceed
1% of the total of each of the species or variety where the number specified exceeds one hundred (100), or
one sample if the number is less than one hundred (100).

9.5.8 DEFECTIVE SAMPLES

If samples so inspected are found to be defective, the entire line represented by the defective samples may
be rejected. All plants rendered unsuitable as a result of this inspection will be considered as samples on
which payment cannot be claimed.
