   Environmental Noise Level Study for Proposed Industrial Business Type 2 (Production, Alteration, Repackaging
   and Repairing), 5 Taylor Court, Cooroy Page 5 of 17

   Taylor Court comprises 5 industrial parcels of land and, as these are developed, there is a potential for
   background creep. Therefore the adopted noise limit criteria is background creep, which is as follows:

          • for noise that is continuous noise measured by LA90,T – more than nil dB(A) greater than the
              existing acoustic environment measured by LA90,T; or

          • for noise that varies over time [time varying noise] measured by LAeq,adj,T – more than 5 dB(A)
              greater than the existing acoustic environment measured by L A90,T.

   These are the noise limit criteria which has been applied to this proposed development.

   AMBIENT NOISE LEVELS

   Table 1 details the range and average ambient noise levels at Monitoring Location A, near the front
   boundary of 72 Ferrells Road, with the microphone elevated 1.8 metres.

   For details of measurement equipment, equipment settings, monitoring location and atmospheric
   conditions for the weekdays and weekend, refer Appendix A, whilst Appendix B details all of the results
   of the ambient noise level measurements.

   With respect to Table 1 the following should be noted:

          •   daytime:             0700 to 1800 hours;
          •   evening:             1800 to 2200 hours;
          •   night-time:          2200 to 0700 hours;
          • ‘A’ weighted: adjustment made by the sound level meter to the measured noise to
                                   correspond to the response of the human ear. This adjustment is
                                   standardised by international noise standards;
          • LAeq,T: the equivalent continuous (or approximately the ‘average’) ‘A’ weighted sound
                                   pressure level for the measurement period ‘T’;
          • LA1,T: the ‘A’ weighted sound pressure level exceeded for 1% of the measurement
                                   period ‘T’;
          • LA10,T: the ‘A’ weighted sound pressure level exceeded for 10% of the measurement
                                   period ‘T’, which is an approximation of the ‘average of the maximum noise
                                   levels’;
          • LA90,T: the ‘A’ weighted sound pressure level exceeded for 90% of the measurement
                                   period ‘T’, which is an approximation of the ‘average of the minimum noise
                                   levels’, which is also known as the ‘background’ noise level.
