SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 MARCH 2020
Half-yearly performance shows a strong favourable result in both revenue and expenditure. As a
whole, the centre bettered budget by $70,757 for the period.
Total revenue exceeded budget by $46,642, largely due to the strong performance of the group
fitness program, with revenue up $37,074 on budget. Group fitness revenue has benefitted from
strong membership growth at NLC which has been driven by an enhanced range of membership
inclusions, more active promotion of the centre and a program that continues to evolve in line with
consumer expectations. Venue hire also performed strongly, finishing the period $8,576 ahead of
budget.
Expenditure for the period came in under budget by $24,114, almost entirely because of
underspends in maintenance. This is a timing issue more than anything and management expect
maintenance expenditure to fall back in line with budget expectations over the second half of the
year.
The below comparison of the past four years’ half-yearly financial performance data reveals
continued strong revenue growth at NLC, with 2019/20’s result up 10% on the year prior. Across
the same period controllable expenses increased by only 5.3%. These factors combined have
contributed to the trend of a decreasing operational cost to Council over recent years.
