PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 8 DECEMBER 2020

Energy efficiency initiatives such as LED lighting upgrades and air conditioning replacements and
improvements have also resulted in decreased electricity consumption from the grid.
The consumption graphs for each individual site are provided in Attachment 1. The following
outlines the initiatives and the resultant savings at individual sites to October 2020. The analysis
removes the impact of the COVID-19 related shut down for comparison.
The J
A 50 kW solar system was installed in June 2018.
The electricity consumption from the grid for July 2019–February 2020 was 37% lower than for the
same period without solar. This is a significant result as much of The J’s electricity consumption
occurs at night. The solar system exports electricity that is generated in excess of the site’s needs
to the electricity grid, which offsets some of the night time consumption.
Noosa Leisure Centre
Energy efficient initiatives include the progressive retrofit of LED lighting, the installation of energy
efficient fans and the installation of a 32kW solar PV in August 2018.
 Electricity consumption from the grid in July 2019–Feb 2020 was 50% lower than for the
same period prior to the installation of solar
Noosaville Depot
Energy efficiency initiatives include the installation of an inverter air conditioning system, retrofit of
office LED lighting and the installation of a 50kW solar PV in June 2018.
 Electricity consumption from the grid in July 2019–Feb 2020 was 77% lower than for the
same period prior to the installation of solar.
Cooroy Library
Energy efficiency initiatives include improvements to the air conditioning system controls, retrofit of
LED lighting and the installation of a 60kW solar PV system in November 2018.
 Electricity consumption from the grid in July 2019–Feb 2020 was 64% lower than for the
same period prior to the installation of solar.
Noosa Aquatic Centre
Energy efficiency improvements include LED lighting retrofit and the installation of a 26kW solar
system in November 2018.
 Electricity consumption from the grid in July 2019–Feb 2020 was 19% lower than for the
same period prior to the installation of solar (adjusting for NAC renovation shutdown and
      COVID). .
Tewantin Administration Building
A 90 kW system was installed in June 2019 as part of the roof replacement capital project. Energy
efficiency projects including the installation of LED lights have significantly reduced electricity
consumption.
 Electricity consumption from the grid in July 2019–Feb 2020 was 60% lower than for the
same period prior to the installation of solar.
Noosaville Library
An innovative lightweight solar panel system was installed on the Noosaville Library in July 2020.
 Electricity consumption from the grid for the first three months since installation was 61%
lower than for the same period prior to the installation of solar
