Noosa Council
Noosa Car Parking Study 2017 - 2032
Final Report
In order to provide an estimation of potential carparking yield for the sites, a potential parking layout was
created for location 2, should it be developed as a multi-story public carpark. Two options, a two-level and
three-level, for a parking station were considered for the site, which yielded the following additional parking:
Two-level – provides an additional 104 car spaces (121 existing to 225 proposed); and
Three-level – provides an additional 229 car spaces (121 existing to 350 proposed).
Layouts for these two options, based on using parking ramps (up to 1:20 or 5% slope) between levels, are
provided in Appendix D.
A two-level carpark would provide additional surplus capacity to cater for a portion of Hastings Street parking
demand, allowing for a potential shuttle bus transport between the carpark and Hastings Street in periods of
peak parking demand. The potential impact of a two-level carpark in Noosa Junction on parking utilisation in
Hastings Street is show in Figure 5-4.
Figure 5-4: Shuttle service connection with Noosa Junction (additional 2-level carpark)
Figure 5-4 indicates that an additional 106 spaces at Noosa Junction through the implementation of a two-level
parking station, with supporting transfer / shuttle services, would be sufficient to meet the projected parking
demand for Hastings Street.
5.4.4 Noosa Junction
Carparking within the Noosa Junction study area is currently 69% overall. There is, however, significant variation
in parking utilisation within the study area. Parking is highly utilised along Bottlebrush Avenue, and the
Bottlebrush Avenue carpark, but less utilised along Lanyana Way and in adjacent carparks and along Sunshine
Beach Road. The current parking supply is not expected to be fully utilised by 2031, although an additional 41
carparks would be required by 2031 to achieve a utilisation rate of 85%, based on projected parking demand.
The variation in parking utilisation within the study area can be improved upon through the introduction of real-
time information and directional signage to the underutilised carparks of Lanyana Way.
