Planning a way forward for the Coastal Communities
Outcome: - The quiet, vegetated, beachside character of the coastal villages is preserved.
Limit development to the existing urban form in line with the capacity and physical constraints of the locality.
Ensure the natural landform and landscape are protected and dictate the form of development.
T
Ensure buildings step down slopes rather than modify their site.
F
Preserve space for mature vegetation between buildings.
A
Maintain the low key, casual, beachside character of village centres.
Protect residential neighbourhoods from businesses operations that would detract from the amenity of the neighbourhood in terms of traffic or noise.
R
Outcome: - Infrastructure and public spaces, including open space, support the close knit community of the coastal villages
D
Ensure accessible and welcoming spaces for the community to meet in various capacities including space for indoor and outdoor social groups, creative arts, live
music, markets, and informal gatherings.
Encourage development of additional community infrastructure such as aged care in the vicinity of Grasstree Court.
Enhance the pedestrian and cyclist connectivity between community and recreation destinations and residential neighbourhoods.
Protect natural open spaces and the ability for the community to access these spaces for passive recreation.
Protect and enhance sports and recreation facilities for the community into the future.
Improve pathway connections throughout the locality to encourage active transport and recreation.
Improve discreet wayfinding signage to help visitors experience the locality
Outcome: - While the coastal communities include various employment, enterprise and education opportunities, many residents will rely
on destinations outside of this locality for their needs.
Ensure the planning scheme reflects the preferred use of land, for instance review the zoning of land to the west of David Low Way at Peregian Beach and land
developed with visitor resorts.
Protect existing employment opportunities including education, health and wellness, sport and recreation, tourism and digital, knowledge and creative
industries.
