EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Manager Revenue Services to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 6 September 2016 providing an overview of the outcomes from the
July 2016 rate levy.

REPORT
This report provides Council with a summary of the outcomes of the recent July 2016 rate levy.

1. Levy Summary

Rate notices were issued on 19 July 2016, with a due date of 19 August 2016. The gross levy
issued amounted to $35.6 million, comprising of $32.6 million of Council rates and charges, and
$2.9 million for the State emergency management levy. Between January and July 2016 the net
increase in rateable properties was 112, amounting to relatively small property growth of 0.4%.

The main change to the differential general rate structure for this financial year was the removal
of separate categories for high rise strata units and low rise strata units. This differentiation was
introduced during the amalgamation period across the Sunshine Coast region, and as such only
two strata complexes in Noosa fell within the definition of high rise. The general rate structure
adopted for the 2016/17 financial year combined the low and high rise unit categories to remove
the anomaly, with all strata units now rated the same.

Other changes to the rates and charges to note included an increase in the Heritage levy to
$10.00 per annum and the expansion of the Tourism Levy to the Tourism and Economic Levy.
