4.3 Benefits of Weed Management
Non-native plants such as Frangipani vine can outcompete and suffocate native vegetation,
leading to the death of trees. This threatens natural ecosystems by disrupting ecological
processes and reducing biodiversity.
All Queenslanders have a General Biosecurity Obligation under the Biosecurity Act 2014 to
manage weeds and pests. Weed management will have multiple benefits at the RACV Resort
including:
i. Creating an environment in which the natural balance of species can be restored;
ii. Improving the allocation of resources, including available nutrients, water, space
and sunlight and habitat value for native plants;
iii. Improving the habitat value and availability of shelter, food and nesting resources
for native animals;
iv. Reducing the future weed management burden on RACV resort;
v. Reducing the potential spread of invasive species to surrounding high
conservation-value areas and koala movement corridors; and
vi. Improving the long term resilience of the Noosa Biosphere and Noosa River
catchment.
