for Noosa Civic (2018-2019)

1. Introduction
The large area of land south of Eenie Creek Road know as Noosa Civic has been
developed as a multi use commercial hub.

The area south and east of the development has remained in part vegetated. A bushfire
review undertaken in 2018 recommended some additional actions while the adjoining
vegetation was retained. (see Aerial Photograph No. 1)

2. Description of Proposed Actions
The summary of proposed works is detailed below as Table 1.

These actions included the possibility of future fuel reduction burning. The high rainfall
and lack of suitable weather confirms the difficulty associated with these activities but they
should be pursued each year as an aim.

3. Actions Completed as at May 2019
The site was inspected on 22nd May 2019 and the overall situation is vastly improved on
the 2018 position.

The site is much safer with improved access and a much better capacity for suppression if
it is required.

The details of actions and outcomes include:-
   1. (4.1.1) – Access track from Hoffmann Drive to Walter Hay Drive has been cleared
to a 4 metre width. (see Photograph Nos. 1 & 2 and Access Management Plan)

   2. (4.1.2) – The dead end track has been extended to form a loop access and to
delineate practical fuel reduction units. (see Photograph No. 3 and Access
       Management Plan)
   3. (4.1.4) – Widen the existing concrete path to the rear of the Big W building to
confirm vehicular access for suppression vehicles. (see Photograph Nos. 4 & 5)
   4. (4.2.1) – Remove understorey of hazardous vegetation along the access tracks to a
total width of 10 metres. (see Photograph Nos. 6 & 7)
   5. (4.3) – Provide fire hose and reels to Urban Fire Hydrants along the southern wall of
the main building. (see Photograph Nos. 8 & 9)
   6. (4.2.3) – Remove understorey vegetation out to the edge of drainage bank to
provide a safe zone for any suppression activities. (see Photograph No. 10)

4. Future Additional Activities
Along the edge of the loading bay in the eastern area, the planted drainage zone is now
well established. It would be prudent to trim this vegetation when it grows out onto the
access zone. (see Photograph No. 11)

5. Conclusion
The completion of the activities detailed in Section 3 has significantly enhanced the
bushfire safety for the existing infrastructural situation. The site is now accessible, the
retained vegetation is fragmented and suppression actions are vastly better and safer.

The ongoing maintenance of vegetation along the access lines will be required on an
annual basis. The potential of fuel reduction in the vegetated areas should be assessed
each winter. Overall, this is an excellent result.
