1 STATEMENT
The Queensland Local Government Act 2009 requires that each large local government must
establish an Audit Committee. The Audit and Risk Committee Charter (the Charter) defines the role,
responsibilities, composition and guidelines of the Audit and Risk Committee (the Committee) within
Council. The Committee is to provide an oversight, advisory and assurance role only and does not
have any delegated responsibility or management functions within Council.
Council recognises the value of an effective independent Audit and Risk Committee to assist Council
in discharging its legal responsibilities and meeting its business objectives through efficient, effective,
and economical governance frameworks and processes.
2 PURPOSE
The Charter provides the framework for the establishment and operations of the Audit and Risk
Committee of the Noosa Council which has been established to fulfill the requirements of the Local
Government Act 2009 and the Local Government Regulation 2012.
The objective of the Audit and Risk Committee is to promote good corporate governance through
the provision of independent assurance, oversight and advice to Council and the Chief Executive
Officer on matters relating to internal and external audit, financial statement preparation and financial
management, risk management, internal control, and governance.
3 SCOPE
The scope of Audit and Risk Committee responsibilities under this Charter extends to all the
operations and activities of the Council.
