SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 SEPTEMBER 2019
several areas of improvement. In summary the recommendations of the report call for the
resource recovery area to be remodelled to facilitate physical separation of machinery and
customers. It states: ‘Council should remodel their site, in consultation with all interested parties,
with the intended outcome being complete isolated/segregated operations so that no contractor
machinery is interacting with the public. Spotters should be engaged on a temporary basis until
this is established.’
To address the findings and recommendations of the report the Waste Section has:
Approved Cleanaway to provide additional resources at the site and employ a ‘spotter’
during all busy periods. The purpose of the spotter is to supervise and direct the public
when they enter the shared resource recovery area.
Commenced plans to expand the resource recovery area. The first action required to do
this is an environmental assessment in preparation for the removal of an area of vegetation
that intersects the site. All relevant approvals will need to be sought and obtained before
this can move forward.
Business Continuity
The Waste Section’s Risk Management Program and Business Continuity Program has recently
been reviewed.
