EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The report regarding Tait Duke Cottage presented to Council’s Infrastructure and Services
Committee on 25 February 2014 identified a number of potential sites for relocation of the
Cottage for community purposes. One of the potential sites is Council owned land situated in
Earl Street Tewantin. However one constraint of this land relates to the potential future Gibson
Road Extension as identified in Council’s transport network planning, which is reflected in the
Coastal Major Road Network Infrastructure Charges Plan, Coastal Traffic and Transport to 2016
report and Priority Infrastructure Plan.
At the Ordinary Meeting of 6 March 2014, Council adopted the I&S Committee Recommendation
item B to “ Invite Expression of Interests (EOI) from Community Groups for the relocation and
utilisation of Tait Duke Cottage once Council has made a determination on the suitability of the
Earl Street site for the possible relocation of the Cottage”. This report presents a preliminary
review of the proposed Gibson Road Extension and associated Earl Street land in question.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Priority Infrastructure Planning & Infrastructure Charges
Officer to the Infrastructure & Services Committee dated 25 March 2014 and:
A. Agree to permit use of the Council owned vacant land at 14 to 18 Earl Street Tewantin for
community purposes in the short to medium term. This is to be limited to a maximum 20
year lease, with options to extend the lease, subject to further and ongoing transport
planning reviews;
B. Note a full and comprehensive transport network planning review will be required to inform
the next Planning Scheme; and
C. Acknowledge the proposed future Gibson Road Extension will not occur within the next 20
years in a future amendment to the Priority Infrastructure Plan.
