6. LDMG Activations
There has been one (1) activation of the Noosa LDMG in the period 31 December 2021 to 22
September 2022.
On the 22 February 2022, a surface and upper trough combined with a humid airmass to
produce slow moving thunderstorms across inland and southeast parts of the state. In response
to the previous night’s rainfall and heeding forecasted weather advice the Noosa LDMG “Stood
Up” on the 23 February 2022.
The Noosa Council Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC) was setup at the Noosaville
Depot for four (4) days during this period.
Intense, persistent rainfall over a 13-day period resulted in flash and riverine flooding in an
already saturated catchment. Cooran received 1160mm of rain which equates to 68% of the
mean annual rainfall for the suburb.
Flooded road infrastructure led to numerous communities being isolated at different times during
the event. Catchment inflows led to major flood conditions along the Noosa River.
These floods impacted properties, public assets, critical infrastructure, small businesses, the
local environment, and the community.
As a result of the event Noosa Council was activated for the following Queensland
Reconstruction Authority led schemes:
 Counter Disaster Operations
 Essential services, Safety and Reconnection Scheme
 Personal Hardship Assistance Scheme
 Reconstruction of essential public assets
 Freight Subsidies for Primary Producers
