SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 OCTOBER 2022
The impacts of Covid-19 this year certainly impacted in the first half of the year and did cause
some operational headaches as shows were cancelled, performers are unable to enter Qld
and/or theatre occupancy limits are reduced in line with ever-changing operating restrictions.
The team have handled this volatile period extremely well and continue to operate with the
utmost professionalism during a highly stressful period. The last 6 months have seen the venue
bounce back both operationally and financially which has also provided some relief to staff and
allowed a return to business as usual.
There is still the need to review the staffing structure at the venue moving forward, given the
current Marketing and Communications role has morphed into more of an overall operational
role covering multiple service areas of the business.
5. SYSTEMS & PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
Spaces vacated by USC to be improved with further works required depending on
Council's decision regarding future use options. Installation of council fob access and
security systems also a consideration.
Review The J’s Bookings systems simultaneously with the other Facilities NAC & NLC.
Acoustic improvements to The J Theatre programmed ongoing as part of a 5-year capital
works program.
Lease for Noosa FM has been signed and sits with legal team to process.
Ongoing discussions are occurring on the leases for Montessori School and Noosa
Gymnastics at the Bicentennial Centre. These have been drafted and presented but both
are in holding patterns due to internal operational and board issues that will delay
signing.
6. FUTURE DIRECTION
Continue to manage the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 and relevant impacts to
operations and planning, particularly the threat of event cancellations.
Look at ways to continue to rebuild attendance numbers back up to pre-covid levels.
Continue to work on the development and finalisation of the 5-year business plan.
Consider developing a ‘Needs Assessment’ of The J, following USC’s exit and Council’s
determinations on potential future usage options for the office and meeting room space.
