3. CUSTOMERS
NLC recorded 82,423 attendances for the year, up around 2% on the previous year’s total
(noting that 2021/22 was also impacted in the first part of that year again by Covid shutdowns
and restrictions).
Although the numbers have not increased dramatically based on the previous year, this can be
attributed to the lingering effects of the disruptions from the pandemic. January particularly saw
a decline in attendance numbers (down 33%). This was largely due to the stadium being closed
for the entire month to facilitate a COVID 19 vaccination clinic. May attendance figures were
also down 33% due to the pandemic and other illnesses such as influenza circulating in the
community, which effected not only NLC programs, but also regular client bookings who had to
cancel weeks at a time due to illness.
Additionally, February’s significant wet weather saw a decline in attendance numbers of 10%.
It was however, pleasing to see the return of several regular sports and charity events to NLC,
including Rotary Noosa Daybreak’s Bookfest, the now annual Pickleball Championship and the
Lions Convention, whilst we also hosted the Judo Queensland State Titles in April. This event
was new to the area and a tremendous success with close to 1000 people attending throughout
the day.
Tracking the cost per visit, both for operational cost (exclusive of depreciation and internal
charges) and total cost, can be an effective way to gauge efficiency of service delivery over
time. The below chart clearly shows the impact of reduced attendance on this metric over the
past three Covid-affected years.
