The plants selected must be able to tolerate periods of inundation and a saturated filter material. Therefore
plants with extensive fibrous root systems are required. Refer to Australian Runoff Quality and BCC WSUD

5.4 STORMWATER QUALITY TREATMENT TRAIN

A WSUD treatment train has been developed to meet the reduction criteria established in Table 10. Bio-Retention
areas with a total surface / treatment area of 113m* will be utilised to capture and treat overland flows from
pervious and impervious areas. Healthy Waterways ‘WSUD Technical Guidelines’, states that to achieve adequate
load reduction targets, bio-retention systems are to be sized at approximately 1-2% of the catchment area. Table
11 provides a catchment breakdown for the total Bio-Retention area.

The bio-retention filter media should be planted with a selection of the vegetated types as outlined in Table 12.

plants with extensive fibrous root systems are required. Refer to Australian Runoff Quality and BCC WSUD
Engineering Guidelines Table 12.1 for additional information and suitable plant varieties.

5.5 MAINTENANCE

A bio-retention basin maintenance plan will be provided at the Operational Works Stage.
