PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 13 OCTOBER 2015
Figure 2 Vertical and horizontal oyster settlement structures deployed in the Noosa Estuary
(Source: An Assessment of Oyster Recruitment Report, 2015).
To determine the possible changes in settlement rates across the summer spawning
season, the settlement structures were deployed over three different periods of time.
Beginning in December 2014, one deployment was for the total period of 5-6 months; one
deployment was for the first 2-3 months of this period; and another during the final 2-3
months of this period.
The settlement structures were then visually inspected after a period of time and the number
and size of juvenile oysters recorded.
Over 160 settlement tiles (10cm x 10cm) were deployed at seven (7) intertidal sites and five
(5) sub-tidal sites within the Noosa Estuary.
