Preseason (Winter)

 Arrange an annual inspection for assessment of hazards and risks. (Local Rural
Fire Brigade or Consultant). Provide a report with recommendations.
 From these recommendations proceed with winter/spring maintenance including:-
              Prune trees.
              Remove dead trees.
 Conduct hazard reduction e.g. slashing, mowing or burning of ground
               fuels.
 Remove flammable materials from around buildings.
 Check water supply systems and other fire extinguisher systems.

Spring/Early Summer until Season safe from Rains

 Increase hazard reduction (more regular mowing or slashing).
 Check pruning and dead tree and branch situation.
 Ask NPWS or Council to confirm the seasonal situation and any special
requirements for the fire season. It is often obvious to trained agency
staff when a potentially serious year is imminent and this is valuable for
               an individual in their planning.

Bushfire Action and Survival

What to Do
 Monitor seasonal severity and discuss the situation with neighbours,
               NPWS and Rural Fire Authorities.
 Watch for predicted blow up days when Fire Danger is already high and
place your property in the safest condition it can be.
              Don’t light fires.
 Assemble your fire fighting and survival equipment in a central location.
 Connect hoses to taps and check sprinkler system is working.
 Report sighting of any smoke.

 If wild fire is threatening:-
 Seek support from Urban/Rural Brigades.
              Put on protective clothing.
 Seal buildings – close windows, shutters and doors.
