and opportunities associated with projects and initiatives where the department has been
involved (6.9. funding contribution or grant, joint operations, joint project delivery or joint
governance).
TransLink media coordinates media announcements between the government, the
department, and other stakeholders, which includes operators and councils.
The role of TransLink media is to ensure all parties have the opportunity to:
   ¢  be included in media materials and events
   e  be given the opportunity to provide comment for inclusion
   ¢  be given the opportunity to approve and fact check materials
   ¢  be given the opportunity to provide specific distribution requests (provide media
      release to Southern Star News).
Where there is a joint funding agreement or there is joint involvement with the department,
any media materials including releases and responses should be sent to TransLink for
approval, prior to distribution to media outlets.
Likewise, TransLink media has a responsibility to ensure that stakeholders have the
opportunity to review and provide input for any media materials prepared by the department,
that reference the stakeholders’ involvement, prior to issuing to media outlets.
Importantly, TransLink recognises that there are times when it may be appropriate and
deliver a better outcome for stakeholders to engage with the media without the
involvement of TransLink media.
In these instances, it is imperative that enquiries relevant to TransLink/TMR are
progressed through to the TransLink media team for advice and potential formulation
of approved input to address the TransLink components of an enquiry. Depending on
the enquiry, TransLink will work with the stakeholder to determine whether the
stakeholder would be better placed to provide the response directly to the media.
