4.4 During a Flood – Self Evacuation
Triggers for Action: Major flooding in Noosa River at the Tewantin River Gauge (at 1.8mAHD), 24hr
daily totals of greater than 300mm recorded with more rainfall forecast, quantified level of 1.3mAHD or
greater at site flood height gauge
◼ A flood height siren will be issued to the whole site if forecasts suggest that significant flooding of the site
is possible. It will be issued whenever:
◼ The site flood height gauge reaches a level of 1.3m AHD (between the 2% and 5% AEP).
◼ Residents who consider they could not tolerate several days isolation and those with medical conditions
including Children, Elderly, infirm and people that may require medical attention during the period of
isolation must self-evacuate BEFORE Lake Weyba Drive is covered by flood water. If there is water over
road – cease evacuation and shelter in place.
Please note the Noosa Shire Council’s simulations of the 1992 historic event indicate the following times,
(following activation of the siren) are application:
• RL 1.3 to RL1.5 (nominally the point at which the road is inundated) = approximately 2 hours
• RL 1.5 to RL 1.8 (the point at which the road is no longer trafficable) = approximately 8 hours
