2025 Annual Disaster MANAGEMENT REPORT · Report
SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING 9 SEPTEMBER 2025
• 16–18 June 2025 – LDCC Cell-Specific Training
In-depth training to clarify the roles and responsibilities of each functional area within the
LDCC.
5. Community engagement
The regional Get Ready Queensland (storm and bushfire season) campaign was launched by
Mayors Wilkie (Noosa) and Natoli (Sunshine Coast) at Peregian Digital Hub on 11 October 2024,
five years on from the 2019 bushfires. The local media network provided excellent coverage of the
launch.
Council’s Get Ready Schools Program began via engagement with local school principals in August
2024. Between October and December 2024, 17 schools were visited. Co-ordinated by Council,
more than 2,500 students attended the 90-minute Minecraft-themed presentation which included
emergency services officers and response vehicles on-site at each school. This program is expected
to expand between October-December 2025.
Get Ready Queensland-funded emergency information packs are at the centre of all engagement
activities. The centrepiece of these packs is the Noosa Emergency Action Guide (fourth edition).
Collateral from other agencies is also included, asking each recipient to then create their own
emergency kit (3-5 days of supplies) at home or work so they are ready for any emergency or disaster
at any time.
Disaster resilience and engagement with Noosa’s Aged Care sector is another key focus. The annual
aged care workshop for facility managers and regional managers was held on 4 February 2025.
Council's disaster management staff along with our emergency services partners (Qld Fire
Department - Fire and Rescue, Qld Ambulance Service and State Emergency Services) continue to
conduct facility visits, with plans for nine more local visits throughout 2025/2026. More than 1,500
residents will attend these information sessions.
Following the opening of the Noosa LDCC on 23 September 2024, Noosa's Queensland-first
Simtable moved from the Peregian Digital Hub to the LDCC. In collaboration with Council’s Fire
Management Officer, community demonstrations are being delivered on-site and at various events.
Training with State Emergency Services units and Queensland Fire Department (Rural Fire)
brigades is also ongoing as we broaden and strengthen the capacity of the Simtable.
Council staff sit on the Australian Simtable working group and meet quarterly via Teams to liaise with
Simtable in the USA (Santa Fe, New Mexico).
Close liaison with the Noosa State Emergency Service (SES) local controller and Sunshine Coast
Area Controller continues with events such as WOW Day (Wear Orange Wednesday) in May
coordinated in conjunction with Council’s disaster management team. These efforts aim to maximise
media and engagement opportunities, as well as highlighting award and public relations
opportunities for SES volunteers.
Developed in conjunction with the (now defunct) Community Services Recovery and Resilience
Officer, Good Neighbour resilience events took place in: Kin Kin (9 June 2024), Lake Entrance Blvd
(24 October 2024), Boreen Point/Cootharaba (22 November 2024), Teewah (6 December 2024) and
Noosa North Shore (14 December 2024). These events aim to build resilience and community
capacity. This initiative continues with established disaster subgroups in Pomona, Kin Kin and
Teewah, with plans for additional subgroups to be formed throughout 2025.
The Noosa Local Resilience Action Plan (LRAP) was developed and submitted to Queensland
Reconstruction Authority (QRA) in January 2025. This living document lists the suite of climate and
disaster resilience actions identified across all of Noosa Council’s functions, and informs future
funding opportunities, ensuring the Noosa region is better equipped to handle the increasing
