Noosa Civic Expansion
Bushfire Assessment Report

Civic patrons and staff would be subjected to an unacceptable level of risk given the following facts and
circumstances.
1. Local emergency response personnel would implement traffic management controls to prevent access
to those parts of the local road network that may be exposed to dangerous smoke and flame hazards.
For example, if a major fire event was to occur within the adjacent sectors of Noosa National Park to the
east of the Noosa Civic site there is the potential for that fire to create unsafe conditions on adjacent
sectors of Eenie Creek Road and Walter Hay Drive. If such a circumstance occurred it would be
standard practice from the local fire and emergency response authorities to arrange for the temporary
closure of both roadways to general traffic, which would be diverted to other parts of the local road
network. In addition to ensuring public safety the removal of general traffic from fire exposed sections
of the road network also facilitates the safe and efficient movement of fire response units that are
involved in managing the spread of the fire.
2. The main points of access to and egress from the existing and proposed Noosa Civic centre are located
on the northern sector of the site and are unlikely to be exposed to smoke or flame emanating from any
fire approaching the site from the east or south. Whilst there are potential access/egress routes leading
to the south and east that could be used by Noosa Civic patrons and staff, as noted above access to
these routes would be restricted if required due to potential smoke or flame hazards.
