To whom it may concern,
My attention has recently been drawn to the size and scope of the above referenced
Development Application for a site adjacent to the Peregian Beach village shopping
precinct.
I would like to lodge a strong objection to this proposed application for a number of
reasons as outlined below.
The development site has been the subject of a series of Development Applications
over the years that have resulted in the Developer agreeing to an agreed scope of
works and then after a short lapse of time, submitting to council a revised scope of
works that exceeds the said scope of work previously agreed to. And further, after
making these several applications, until quite recently, very little actual work has taken
place to reflect the scope of work originally sought and agreed. I believe the original
scope of work (2009) called for only a modest “Seven-11” style supermarket on the site
whereas, now, a “Bunnings” sized shopping precinct has been built that houses the
large IGA store.
The new IGA store is now attracting sufficient trade with its associated traffic flows to
seriously impact the flow of traffic passing the Peregian Beach shopping precinct.
Traffic from the IGA’s car-park is directed to travel northwards and either continue north
or in order to travel south, firstly travel north and then make a U-turn about the round-
about close to the Pub before heading south. The impact on present traffic flows is
further aggravated by pedestrian traffic moving either to or from the IGA site across the
David Low, via the pedestrian crossing, to the Peregian Beach shopping precinct. Such
pedestrian traffic right-of-way, obviously, further impedes traffic flows. The impact of
over 50 housing sites within the proposed Application with their associated expected
vehicle traffic volumes will further add to the present over-taxed situation and will add
further significant traffic flows to this already congested traffic-flow problem.
The proposed Application also calls for the dumping of significant volumes of land-fill on
the site which, apart from obliterating part of the established wet-lands and creek areas,
will require the use of significant numbers of heavy duty large earth-moving trucks to
