Attachment I - Flood Assessment
Cooroy Hinterland Park Flood Assessment Peak flood depth and velocity mapping for the proposed case model results are presented in Appendix B. Peak flood level impact mapping is presented in Appendix C. 4.3 Results Discussion The site of the Hinterland Park is an active flow path of Cooroy Creek. Cooroy Creek flood waters enter the site via breakout flow from the creek banks and via flow overtopping the road crest of Maple Street. The modelling found that the original design of the hinterland park was expected to create too much of an obstruction to floodwater through the site and this had the effect of raising flood levels upstream and pushing additional floodwater in a north direction towards the industrial area along Lowermill Road. Modelling has demonstrated that care is required to ensure that the design of the park will not increases flood risk on surrounding properties. Iterative modelling of various mitigation scenarios has been used to develop several mitigation measures that have successful reduced offsite flood impacts to an acceptable level. The results of this assessment should inform future design of the park and it is recommended that the final park design configuration be subject to a further assessment to ensure positive flood outcomes are achieved. .
