EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Community Facilities Manager to the Infrastructure & Services
Committee meeting dated 8 December 2015, and approve The J Business Plan 2015-2018
provided at Attachment 1 to the report.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to advise Council of The J business planning process 2015 – 2018,
and the subsequent business plan.
A previous version of this report was presented to Council at the Infrastructure & Services meeting
on 15 September 2015. At this meeting it was requested that the matter be referred for further
discussion at a Councillor workshop. This workshop was held on 13 November 2015 and the
Business Plan has since been updated to reflect some of the points raised by Councillors.
The J is a unique facility that includes a 330 seat theatre, with a new option of including up to 60
additional seats in the upper mezzanine section, if required. It also offers flexible meeting spaces,
conference rooms and facilities for hire, which are complemented by covered outdoor areas and
stylish open foyers.
The J operates as a versatile, multi-use community venue. It hosts a wide range of performances,
live entertainment, and community activities. It also has two long-term tenants: the University of
the Sunshine Coast (incorporating TAFE) and Noosa Community Radio.
The J is the venue of choice for a number of community organisations, including Noosa Chorale,
Noosa Heads Jazz Club, Noosa Music Society, Independent Retirees Association, Queensland
Arts Alliance and Hillsong Church. Numerous school groups also utilise the facility, conducting a
range of activities such as performances and awards/presentation ceremonies.
