INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 8 DECEMBER 2015

e) Council improve communication with the public throughout the year to ensure that they are
aware that they can utilise Brite Side Industries, Salvation Army and other charities to collect
      and reuse serviceable items.
f) As part of the next Service bulk bins be placed at rural turn turnarounds such as Louis Bazzo,
Kinmond Creek, Davis, Old Ceylon and Crawfords Road for the disposal of items. Cameras
should be set up to monitor use of the bins in these known problem areas and detect abuse
      of the service.

Finance & Risk

A potential risk exists both to Council, the public, and the contractor’s employees with the potential
for accidents due to the placement of uncontained waste material, (i.e. glass, sharp objects) on
Council controlled land.

Although no injuries were reported this year, there remain potential liabilities to Council by
endorsing the placement of bulk waste material on public footpaths.

Consultation

External Consultation - Community & Stakeholders

Feedback that has been received from the community indicates the Kerbside Bulk Waste
Collection Service continues to be a popular service. The community favoured having mattresses
included in this year’s Service and would also be interested in e-waste and tyre collection
programs.
