EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report provides demographic information on Noosa Shire and brings forward a
community profile prepared by AEC Group. This material provides an important foundation
for various forward planning projects including the social plan, economic plan, housing
needs analysis and the next planning scheme.

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Principal Strategic Planner to the Planning &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 3 March 2015 and endorse the Community Profile
prepared by AEC Group for use in policy preparation.

REPORT
1. Statistical Geography

As a consequence of local government boundary realignments in 2004, 2008 and 2014
there has been a disconnect between the boundaries of Noosa Shire Council and the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) census localities from both the 2006 and 2011 census
counts.

From the 2006 census Noosa Shire was generally contained within the four Statistical Local
Areas of Noosa Hinterland, Tewantin, Noosa - Noosaville and Sunshine - Peregian.
However this excluded “South Peregian” which was transferred to Noosa Shire in 2004.

In July 2011 (just before the last census) the ABS adopted a new Australian Statistical
Geography Standard in which the Sunshine Coast Region was a local government area.

At the 2nd level Statistical Area (SA2) Noosa Shire is included within the following areas:
• Tewantin
• Noosaville
• Noosa Heads
• Sunshine Beach
• Peregian
• Noosa Hinterland

However for the latter two, only part of the SA2 is within Noosa Shire. The Queensland
Government Statistician's Office has applied the following concordance to enable the
release of various estimates for Noosa Shire Council (2014).
