PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 3 MARCH 2015
Peregian SA2 316051436 49.1247812% to Noosa
Peregian SA2 316051436 50.8752188% to Sunshine Coast
Noosa Hinterland SA2 316041433 83.9975047% to Noosa
Noosa Hinterland SA2 316041433 16.0024953% to Sunshine Coast
This has been done without consideration of factors which might affect demographic or
socio-economic data. For instance there is no differentiation between the new master
planned greenfield community of Peregian Springs and the established beachside
communities of Peregian Beach and Marcus Beach.
At the 1st (smallest) level, there are 149 SA1s making up Noosa Shire. These Statistical
Areas align with the Noosa Shire local government area with the exception of one (being
31604143356 at Doonan) where only 22.695% is assigned to Noosa Shire. This equated to
only 22 houses at the time of the 2011 census, and 30 now.
As previously discussed with Councillors, for the purpose of the community profile the Shire
has been divided into 9 localities. These are:
Boreen Point, Kin Kin and Cootharaba
Federal to Ringtail Creek (including Pomona and Cooran)
Cooroibah
Noosa North Shore
Ridgewood to Tinbeerwah (including Cooroy)
Tewantin
Noosaville and Doonan
Noosa Heads
Sunshine Beach to Peregian Beach
While there are many different ways this could have been done it was necessary to build up
from SA1 level and the resultant localities are by no means equivalent in size or population,
but broadly represent communities of interest. Readers of the report are cautioned that
because of the low number of Noosa North Shore residents interpreting results for this
locality can be problematic.
AEC Group was commissioned to produce a Community Profile which compared data for the
9 localities and also compared Noosa Shire with both South East Queensland, and the
State. Their report is attached and is summarised in the following sections.
2. People
The AEC report advises that since 2006 the Noosa Population has been increasing at a
slower rate than both South East Queensland’s and the State’s. Noosa’s estimated
residential population at June 2013 was 52,419 people.
From the mid 1970s to the mid 1990s Noosa Shire experienced rapid population growth.
The average annual growth rate over the 12 years from 2001 to 2013 was 2.0% and more
recently the average annual growth rate over the 2011-2013 two year period was 1.3%.
Growth over time is summarised in Figure 1 below.
