Unfortunately, while they usually do, SA2s do not have to align with local government
boundaries. As an example, Noosa Hinterland SA2 includes all of Doonan and Weyba Downs as
shown on Map 2. Fortunately these are not densely populated areas and their inclusion should
not significantly distort trends.

Figure 1 shows how the resident population of Noosa Shire is distributed across the six SA2s.
As can be seen they are clearly of different proportions and at over 23,000 people Noosa
Hinterland is the largest with Tewantin’s population the next largest at 10,545. Peregian Beach –
Marcus Beach represents the smallest population at 3,875 residents.
