Median rents rose sharply in the first half of the 2000’s then were reasonably flat between 2008
and 2013 but have been rising steadily again since then.
According to the ABS Census of Population and Housing: Estimating homelessness, 2016, there
were apparently 110 homeless people in Noosa Shire in 2016, being a rate of 19.4 per 10,000
persons. Within the Shire the highest rate was Noosa Hinterland with 68 people (or 31.4 per
100,000). For comparison the rate for the whole state is 45.6 per 10,000 persons. The ABS
considers a person is homeless if they do not have suitable accommodation alternatives and
their current living arrangement:
is in a dwelling that is inadequate;
has no tenure, or if their initial tenure is short and not extendable; or
does not allow them to have control of, and access to space for social relations.
5. Income
The median personal income for Noosa Shire in 2016 was $30,940, slightly lower than the State
Median of $34,320, however as shown in Table 5 there is considerable variation across the six
SA2s that make up the Shire.

In more detail Figure 9 categorises total personal income across the six SA2s that make up
Noosa Shire. Note that census questions on income are met with sensitivity and do not get a
particularly high response rate so figures obviously do not add up to 100%.
