Intent was to record traffic noise level, however due to little to no traffic on Hofmann Road, the levels
recorded do not represent accurately traffic noise levels which can be emitted once the road is used.
Hofmann Rd traffic is currently only generated by one small residential development and leads to a dead
end.
5 NOISE SOURCES/IMPACTS
The following sections outline current major noise sources that were identified upon site visit to have
potential impact on site.
5.1 LOADING DOCKS
5.1.1 Trolley Collection
During time on site, it was observed that trolley activity is a regular occurrence across both loading docks.
Noise level that was measured in relation to noise produced by trolley activity was 69 dB(A) Leq.
Trolley collection would unlikely occur at night time, however, the façade of the residential buildings must
be designed to ensure compliance with relevant indoor noise limits during periods of trolley collection hours.
Further investigation is required during detailed design phase of the proposal prior to DA submission for
the specific site, based on actual site plans, building and room layouts.
5.1.2 Delivery Trucks
It was observed that small to medium sized delivery trucks were present within the loading docks during
time of site visit. We note that the loading dock operational hours as per installed signage start at 5AM
(based on Woolworths, unknown for others) and on that basis, night time loading dock noise impacts and
sleep disturbance assessment or compliance with Acoustic Quality Objectives is required once the residential
development site plans are known. Acoustic review of façade treatment is required to ensure acceptable
impacts indoors, unless external noise compliance with Acoustic Quality Objectives can be achieved.
Among other requirements, we note that the windows and doors would need to be in a closed position (and
appropriately acoustically rated) to achieve indoor noise limits. On that basis, alternative ventilation would
be required for the noise affected rooms to achieve adequate ventilation.
5.1.3 Mechanical Plant
The following mechanical plant was observed and noted in Figure 2.
• Eastern Loading Dock Plant deck above loading dock ‘5’ emitting a calculated sound power level
of 93dB(A).
• Western Loading Dock - Plant room/exhaust adjacent loading dock ‘2’ were measured and
calculated to have a sound power level 90 dB(A).
