7. The differences that the Essence of Peregian Beach development will provide relative to existing
accommodation types.
The proposed development at Essence of Peregian Beach is intended to offer a mix of short stay, dual
purpose and permanent residential accommodation integrated with event and meeting space that would:
• Appeal to the short stay market, including opportunities for single night stays relative to the
minimum night stays imposed by nearby accommodation facilities
• Appeal to business and event attendees
• Appeal to the self-catering market that prefers to rent short term accommodation within a
centralised facility with resort facilities including pool
• Appeal to visitors seeking access to the lifestyle facilities of the Peregian Beach Village and access
to the patrolled Peregian Beach all within walking distance
• Offer motel accommodation that would be positioned differently to self-catering options
• Provide opportunities for residents of Peregian and surrounding communities to downsize but
remain connected with their Peregian lifestyle
• Provide opportunities for residents to enjoy a low maintenance lifestyle with access to resort
facilities
• Provide opportunities for workers and business owners within the future Rufous Street Digital
Hub to live close to work
• Develop a mix of modern residential homes that would appeal to workers and entrepreneurs
within the creative and digital sector
• Provide meeting spaces and short term accommodation facilities that would complement and
support businesses in and visitors to the future Rufous Street Digital Hub.
8. To support the contention that there has been limited investment of visitor accommodation facilities over
the past decade across the Sunshine Coast Tourism Region (SCTR), ABS tourist accommodation figures
should be sourced to show the trend in different accommodation types (i.e. hotels and resorts; motels;
private hotels and guest houses; and serviced apartments) for the SCTR and the Peregian Beach SA2 over
the last decade.
Statistical Area Level 2 data for accommodation facilities is not available over a time series before 2012
as the ABS Survey of Tourist Accommodation has been altered to match the Australian Standard
Geographical Classification (ASGS) standard.
