INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 31 MARCH 2015
The following points are provided to support the officers’ recommendation to rehabilitate the
entire structure under the Full Scope Option C);
• Based on the consulting engineer’s advice, the full scope of rehabilitation works are
required to be completed by 2018 or sooner.
• The specialist nature of the works carries the risk that should the works not be constructed
under a single contract the procurement of a number of contractors over a number of years
may introduce avoidance of liability issues and additional costs.
• Engineering investigations to other concrete bridges – Sheraton, Witta Circle and Doonella,
all constructed at a similar time are showing similar signs of concrete cancer and expected
to require rehabilitation in coming years. Any delay to Munna Point bridge would compound
the scope of the bridge capital works program and place the Council at risk as the
engineering consultant has informed Council that the minimum Option A) must occur
immediately.
Previous Council Consideration
A formal report has not been presented to Council, however a presentation was provided to
Council on 25 March 2014 on the option to rehabilitate the bridge as opposed to reconstruction
as previously proposed by Sunshine Coast Council.
Finance & Risk
The rehabilitation of Munna Point Bridge will be funded by renewal funding. The shortfall from the
current budget of $1.4 million to the required estimate of $3.05 million will mean a transfer of
funds from the renewal contingency budget in the 2015/16 capital program subject to approval by
Council.
