Based on the experience gained of operating the Parks and Natural Areas in the same team, it is
felt that a more appropriate alignment within the structure would be to broaden the Natural Areas
Co-ordinator role to that of Parks and Natural Areas Coordinator, to lead both Parks and Natural
Areas. This change would allow greater interaction between Parks and Natural Areas in terms of
skill sharing, maintenance and project co-ordination and clearer reporting lines for supervision.

The proposed restructure also allows for a permanent Bushland Care Officer role to be created to
organise the Bushland Care Programme, provide a point of contact for the Groups and
attendance at Working Bees. In conjunction with the Coordinator this role would assess the level
of service provided to the Groups, an action arising from the Natural Areas Service review.

It is proposed that the redesigned position of Parks and Natural Areas Co-ordinator would report
directly to the Civil Operations Manager. This would reduce the number of current direct reports
to the Superintendent of Works position, which is currently too large for optimum management
practice. Strategically it would also enable the Superintendent of Works a greater focus on the
Civil Works & Maintenance area, particularly the rebuilding of Council’s internal construction
capability.
