3.9.3 Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club
A B
Rigging and de-rigging
Ocean canoes require floats to be attached prior to launch
in the water. Chaplain Park provides a large open and grassy
area to rig and de-rig ocean canoes.
Once rigged, OC6 can weigh up to 135kg and measure almost
14m long.
Launch access and facilities
A 5m wide level surface is required to launch larger ocean C
canoes, due to the width of the boats with the side floats
attached.
The beach at Chaplain Park is sufficient, although use, waves
and shifting sands do create undulating banks that create
unsafe conditions, at times. Regular maintenance is required
to maintain a wide level surface for launching boats from the
beach.
Boat storage
Shipping containers are currently located along the treeline D
of the narrow creek that runs along the western boundary of
Chaplain Park. The containers are on the other side of the
drain, on the hardstand near the Noosa River Slipway.
The OC6 boats are stored in the open in Chaplain Park, and
are exposed to the weather.
A single small safety boat is stored under a shade cloth
shelter near the treeline within Chaplain Park. This provides
insufficient shelter from weather, however it prevents tree
debris from accumulating in the boat.
Shade and shelter
There are two picnic shelters within the park that participants
can use, along with members of the public using the park.
Buildings and improvements
Improvements are limited to shipping containers for storage.
Parking
Sealed car parking is available at the end of Mill Street,
however is limited to approximately 10 spaces.
Access, linkages and connectivity
Chaplain Park is centrally located within Noosaville.
Vehicle access to Chaplain Park is via the roundabout exit into
Hilton Terrace and Mill Street.
Existing pathways provide walking and cycling access. A A. Beach access for launching
