Some of the key points from the trial:

    45 minutes saved when compared to starting at 7am;
    Traffic dramatically reduced in all areas;
    Saturday and Sunday reduced to 45 minute collection time;
    Only one near miss reported (cyclist coming around truck on inside);
    Pedestrian interactions with collection vehicle reduced to zero reported issues;
    Increased recycling yield – with more to come with education;
    Improved street litter bin servicing in conjunction with commercial run.

The trial also informed the drafting of the new contract as a similar service has been specified for
inclusion. Going forward from the trial, Cleanaway have agreed to continue the 6am service
although without the split single pass vehicle. They will now also perform recycling bin services
twice weekly. The Hastings Street Association has endorsed the improved service and will inform
Council of any issues as they arise.
