SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 9 AUGUST 2016

This deficit was driven by both a shortfall in fee generated revenue and overspends in contract
services, materials and equipment. The shortfall in fees came mainly as a result of the disruption
caused by the introduction of My Aged Care, a new system designed to be the main entry point
to aged care for all Australians. The roll-out of this system was far from smooth and as such,
caused major disruption to NCS’ normal flow of clients and in turn, the fees received from clients.
Increased demand and delivery of services (hours of services delivered up 8.23% on 2014/15)
led to the expenditure overruns. While this hasn’t caused any immediate issues for NCS (as the
extra funds can be accessed from the reserve account) more prudent financial management is
required in future years to ensure this situation doesn’t repeat itself.
