REPORT
Work has commenced on the development of a Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Noosa Shire.
The Plan will:
Improve Noosa Council and the community’s understanding of current & future risks from
coastal hazards and how they might change through time as a result of climate change;
Enable Council to consult with the community clearly and sensitively throughout key stages
of the project so the community understands the implications and contributes to the decision
making;
Identify what actions are required to avoid, reduce or adapt to climate change risks as they
relate to people, property, assets and the environment;
Provide mapping & visual products and deliverables that are useful for a range of purposes
across Council departments and functions and within the community (e.g. planning scheme,
asset management, community awareness, disaster management and financial planning;
and
Provide direction and actions for a coordinated approach for Council and the community to
adapt to climate change and coastal hazards.
A Community & Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Plan has been prepared to guide
consultation activities across the life of this two year project (Attachment 1). A broad range of
stakeholders and community interests are to be involved to address issues relating to
social/community, economic and environment interests and infrastructure and assets. The
consultation processes have been designed to ensure the Climate Change Adaptation Plan is
appropriately informed, relevant to local circumstances and builds community understanding of
Noosa’s climate change risks and potential adaptation actions.
