1.4.5 Landscape design
The proposed landscape design has also been through a number of iterations in response to community
consultation. The original landscape concept plan proposed tall screening trees to both soften the building,
and offset the loss of the original Melaleuca tree which was removed as part of the demolition of the previous
shed.
The revised landscape scheme (Cardno, 2019; Appendix B) acknowledges the need for planting to soften the
boatshed and patrol building whilst not intruding on the background views of the Noosa River. For this reason,
low hedging is proposed along most boundary fences interspersed with small to medium trees up to 6 - 7m
height (based on the height of the boatshed) using species suitable for the River foreshore selected from the
Noosa Planting Scheme policy Figure 1-12. The existing Cocos palm in the south-western corner of the site
is nominated for retention on the understanding it is valued by the community. The proposed planting will also
assist in screening sightlines to the site from apartments, in particular the glare reportedly experienced in the
afternoon (Figure 4-26), and help integrate the built form with the vegetated backdrop as seen from the River
(Figure 1-16).
