SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 JUNE 2019
Public Opinion - Additional Questions developed by Council
Included with the survey were 10 additional questions developed by Council relating to:
management; existing services; communication channels and customer requests, lifestyle,
challenges; sense of community; and climate change. The findings from responses to these
questions are as follows:
The majority of respondents (66%) were prepared for a disaster or an emergency however
the opportunity exists to further increase awareness of the need to develop effective
disaster management plans within the community;
A high majority of respondents (88%) preferred to maintain the balance between existing
council services and council operating within its financial means, compared to 86% in 2017;
A majority of respondents had very good contact with council;
The preferred method by which respondents seek information from Council about a project
or an issue is from customer service staff (61%), followed by letterbox drops (25.5%),
Council’s website (22%), and local newspapers reinforcing the importance placed on
Council’s customer service interface;
The two most important things with regards to lifestyle were the environment (39.1%)
followed by safety (29.5%);
A large proportion of respondents (76%) were either satisfied (39%) or completely satisfied
(37%) in feeling part of their community; and
Almost four fifths of respondents (79%) either understood climate change reasonably well
(41%) or had a very good understanding of climate change (38%).
Conclusion
The survey results show that the community is satisfied with Council’s performance with Council
achieving a ‘good’ to ‘very good’ rating.
This 2019 tracking survey is a follow up to the 2017 benchmark study for Noosa Council and it
clearly shows Council is currently performing ahead of the results for 2017, and in most areas is
perceived to be meeting expectations of the community it serves.
The results also show that Council is tracking well above its Provincial counterparts, and also for
Queensland, in terms of overall performance when compared with LGAQ 2017 survey results.
Noosa’s survey results will be further compared with LGAQ survey results from the 2019 state-
wide survey when results are released later this year. While the results are very positive, the
opportunity exists for Council to improve even further on performance ratings in a number of
service areas.
