SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 JUNE 2019
Pressure sensors were installed at four car parks in the Hastings St precinct (Noosa Woods,
Lions Park, Maze and National Park). They measured the volume of cars moving over the
tubes against the number of car parks.
The information collected from the pressure sensors was uploaded to readiness.io, which is a
cloud based framework to store and manage real-time information. Information collected was
able to instruct and inform all other points of intervention including:
e Messages on the digital boards
e Go Noosa WebApp and Native App
With the introduction of the Bluetooth sensors at Easter, the readiness.io system allowed quick
and easy integration in to the already existing data collected. This “Plug and Play” model was
extremely efficient and reduced overall costs.
A traffic, pedestrian and car parking occupancy survey was conducted on 3 January 2018 and
again on 3 January 2019 in Noosa Heads and Noosa Junction.
Data collected over 13.5 hours at the Noosa Drive approach to Hastings Street roundabout
showed an increase in sustainable transport modes and a decrease in vehicles.

The survey showed a significant increase in use of the Noosa Junction Transit Centre car park
which is assumed to be due to the active promotion of Park & Ride.
The same survey showed a 36% increase in foot traffic in Noosa Junction compared to the
same time last year.
Interestingly, Noosa Junction did not reach car parking capacity (measured as 85%
occupancy), with areas like The J carpark below 40% occupancy.
