SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 JUNE 2019
Feedback:
Approximately 47% of survey respondents indicated that the roadside digital information
boards helped to inform their travel choices (25% - not applicable, 15% - unaware of the
boards, 13% - no)
Approximately 78% of survey respondents indicated that if car parking around Noosa Heads
was full they would consider Park & Ride as an option with the preferred Park & Ride location
being in Noosa Junction (43%) followed by Tewantin (35%) and Noosaville (21%).
In regards to the signage directing people to Park & Ride in Noosa Junction, 72% of survey
respondents said it was helpful and easy to follow (22% - not applicable, 6 % - No).
Value for money:
Digital boards with purpose built fagades around the trailers were chosen over standard
boards in order to fit with the Noosa Design Principles and to create a welcoming and positive
experience as opposed to a roadside traffic sign.
At the commencement of the Go Noosa trials the Go Noosa App had not yet been developed
and the digital information boards was a means by which to inform people. Transition to an
online platform eg the Go Noosa App would be more cost effective than the boards. However,
the boards are one of the top means by which people find out about the free buses and are a
good way to access new visitors.
Areas for improvement:
e The exact location of the boards was determined by available power supply. Some
dynamic content (intervention messaging) would be better suited to positions closer to
last intervention opportunities and at car parking entrances.
e The pressure sensors experienced wear and tear from vehicles and the batteries
required replacing every 3-5 days. In-ground sensors or camera technology would be
a more reliable long term solution.
e The position of boards should be reviewed as visibility of some was poor albeit
constraint by power supply.
e The speed of traffic limits the amount of messages that can be seen. Transition to an
online platform eg Go Noosa App however the boards target new visitors.
e Noosa Junction is currently not at capacity which would indicate that Park & Ride
should be further encouraged whilst being mindful that Noosa Junction is a vibrant
centre and not to be used as a “car park.”
3. Initiative - Traffic Control & Wayfinding
A traffic management plan was prepared to control and formalise traffic movements in
sequences of priority to improve pedestrian safety, prioritise bus movements, facilitate bus
access in and out of the Noosa Heads Bus Interchange as well as improve traffic flow and
reduce queue length in the Noosa Heads precinct.
