Feedback:
There were some objections to the temporary replacement of the eight parallel car parks,
however there was also feedback from Hastings Street retailers that traffic was able to flow
better as a result.
The small reduction in car parking spaces as a result of these temporary changes was more
than offset by the creation of an additional 250 paid car parks in Noosa Heads Lions Park.
Recent discussions with Hastings Street Association have requested that the parallel car parks
be temporarily converted into loading bays rather than bicycle and scooter parking at peak
periods. Further consultation is required.
Value for money:
This was a very low cost initiative. The temporary scooter parking was installed using
temporary tape which was easily removed. The bike rack is being used elsewhere and the
bollards were already in existence.
Areas for improvement:
e Continue to work in collaboration with the Hastings Street Association to negotiate with
retailers opposed to the temporary replacement of parallel parking.
e Work with Hastings Street Association to determine the best temporary use of parallel
car parking bays
e Improve communication to ensure people understand that changes are only temporary
during the Christmas and Easter peak periods.
e Review the optimal number of parallel parks that need to be temporarily replaced in
order to achieve desired outcomes e.g. limited to the first four bays only?
