8       OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINTS
        AND OPPORTUNITIES
8.1     Visual Amenity
NBN Co has endeavored to strike a balance between providing services and minimising visual
impact on the community and local environment. Telecommunication towers need to be located
in or near the area for which they are designated to provide or improve coverage. This site was
selected based on consideration to town planning matters, coverage objectives, and the ability to
mitigate impacts on the area’s visual amenity.

The location of the proposed facility (provisional Lot 1 on SP27724) will be located in the Davis
Road reserve approximately 65 m east of the formed/bitumen section of Davis Road and
approximately 130 m south of Cootharaba Road. The road reserve is heavily vegetated and largely
unimproved, apart from a few sections that have been previously cleared for driveway access and
aerial power lines (i.e. directly north of the proposed facility location). The proposed facility will
utilise existing access and power infrastructure, in conjunction with mature vegetation screening
that will surround the facility to the east, south and west. Figures 8.1 and 8.2 illustrate the site
characteristics.
