PEREGIAN BEACH SURF LIFE
SAVING CLUB
Community Update: February 2022
Following is the latest update on the project to re-establish an independent, community-based Surf Lifesaving Club
at Peregian Beach (PBSLSC).
1. PBSLS Supporters Club
There was a strong response to the call for nominations for the new Supporters Club Board.
All nominees were of a high calibre, making the decision difficult, but the selected members will bring a great
combination of skills, experience and enthusiasm to the challenge of developing a sustainable income stream for the
new PBSLSC.
The initial Board will be comprised of: John Roderick (SLSC Delegate); Kane Livingstone (SLSC Delegate); Marinus
Jansen (Lifesaving Member); Bibi Jellema (Lifesaving Member); Keith Long (Community Member); and Rob McCready
(Community Member).
We are planning to hold an initial AGM of the Supporters Club on 14 February. This will be a purely procedural
meeting principally to cover off some legal requirements including ratification of office bearers, establishment of
Bank Account and appointment of signatories etc. This will be immediately followed by the first meeting of the new
Supporters Club at which the Committee will, among other things, elect a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
At this stage (and subject to some final details being confirmed), it appears that the new Supporters Club will assume
responsibility for the Peregian Markets and management of the Peregian Clubhouse effective from 1 March 2022.
This is still subject to approval by NHSLSC and has been made possible by the generous agreement of Surf Lifesaving
Queensland (SLSQ) to provide funding for the supplementary Lifeguard service at Peregian (ie Sundays & Public
holidays) from that date through until the end of the season (taking that cost away from NHSLSC). This should allow
the new Supporters Club to generate a small cash holding prior to the commencement of the 2022/23 lifesaving
season, primarily through operation of the Peregian Markets.
One of the initial tasks of the new Supporters Club Board will be to develop a “value proposition” for Community
Membership of the new Club. | ask members of the community who are unable to become Lifesaving Members to
be patient with this process over the coming months. It is anticipated that the initial Community Memberships,
when offered, will cover a period of more than 12 months through until the scheduled 2023 AGM at the end of the
2022/23 lifesaving season.
2. Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Club
We are still awaiting final registration of the new PBSLSC from the Office of Fair Trading — this is expected in March
2022.
As soon as this is received, an initial AGM of the new PBSLSC will be called of Peregian-based patrolling members to
confirm the new SLSC Board (which will be principally comprised of the current Working Group members who have
guided the process so far). This meeting will also be fairly procedural in nature, however, as it will mark a significant
milestone in the process, it may provide the opportunity for some sort of celebration amongst lifesaving members
and community supporters. This will be a matter for both the Supporters Club Board and the Working Group to
consider over the coming months.
The application for the Peregian clubhouse lease (for 10 years) has been submitted to Noosa Council. Council is
expected to formally approve the lease at it’s March 2022 meeting.
