Although the site does not contain bushfire prone areas, parts of proposed Lot 1 are the
potential impact buffer. As such, simple planning and management measures to mitigate
bushfire hazards are required for lot 1.
6.1.2 RADIANT HEAT FLUX
Radiant heat flux was calculated for the proposed building to support assessment
requirements set out in the Building Regulation 2006 (Qld) and Noosa Plan Bushfire hazard
overlay code. Any buildings should be re-assessed at the building application stage.
Radiant heat flux was calculated based on the distance between the closest edge of the
hazardous vegetation in accordance with Method 2 of AS 3959:2018 (View Factor Method),
utilising the input data described in Section 5 and the SPP Bushfire Asset Protection Zone
Width Calculator (Queensland Fire and Emergency Services 2019b).
The maximum view factor and radiant heat exposure was calculated i.e. the combination of
fuel, FFDI and site and effective slopes which maximised radiant heat flux. The model input
data and results of the calculations are indicated in Table 3. The measured separation
distances are indicated in Figure 7.
The outcomes of the calculations indicated that minimum separation distance between the
edge of hazardous vegetation on the northern side of Hoy Rd and the closest point on the
northern corner of proposed lot 1 is approximately 32m and the associated radiant heat flux is
21.58 kW/m2 (BAL 29).
Assessment results are preliminary only and subject to Council approval of the development
application. Changes to aspects of the development, including location and setbacks, may
result in changes to radiant heat flux calculations.
