Figure 2-1 Observed Sight Distance
West Approach East Approach
A review of the proposed operations of the proposed subdivision at 44 Hoy Road indicates that residents are
anticipated to utilise Hoy Road to undertake turning movements to access Lake MacDonald Drive. Hoy Road is
currently a no through road and given that Lake MacDonald exists to the east of Hoy Road, it in not anticipated
that this will change in the future. As a result, residents for the proposed subdivision will utilise Hoy Road to enter
via a right turn from Hoy Road into the site access and exit via a left turn from the site access to Hoy Road.
Indicating that residents will only be required to observe vehicles coming from the east to exit the site, eliminating
the need to provide suitable sight distance to the west at the site access.
Regardless of the proposed operations, to ensure safety at the proposed site access, it is recommended that
signage is provided to alert drivers of the proposed access location. Signage such as a warning sign for the
upcoming t-intersection can be utilised to alert drivers of the upcoming intersection when approaching from the
west. This will be coupled with the existing crest which provides an informal speed reduction as drivers will be
forced to travel uphill and will reduce vehicle speeds from the posted speed limit. The slow speeds and signage
will allow drivers to view and observe a vehicle at the proposed site access in the unlikely event that a resident
turns right onto How Road.
Furthermore, it is noted that no vegetation is required to be removed at the time of writing but vegetation to the
west should be monitored to ensure higher canopy tree branches do not obstruct sight distance.
