PEKOL TRAFFIC & TRANSPORT 3.2 Access Arrangements It is proposed to provide one point of vehicular access to the site from Myall Street and one point of access from Ferrells Road, as shown in Figure 3.1. It is proposed that the Myall Street site access would be an all-movements intersection. Therefore, it is our recommendation that the proposed access intersection is designed to include a left turn auxiliary deceleration lane (AUL) and a channelised right turn treatment (CHR) to minimise the disruption to through traffic on Myall Street. For an 80kph speed environment (the posted speed to the south of the proposed access), the deceleration lane would need to be at least 70m long, including taper, based on the Road Planning and Design Manual. The location of an existing culvert on Myall Street to the south of the site limits the length of deceleration lane that can be provided without costly culvert extension works. It is therefore recommended that an 80m left turn auxiliary lane is provided, as shown in Figure 3.2. In a 60km speed environment, the posted speed to the north of the proposed access) the length of right turn lane should be 80m, including the taper and storage area, as shown in Figure 3.3. It is recommended that the design of the access intersection be conditioned to any development permission.
