portion of the site for a night and weekend market. The area is to be
cordoned off for a maximum of 76 stalls to operate in the area. The
market is to operate every Friday and Saturday night from 4pm till 9pm
and Sunday from 7am till 1pm.
• There is an approval to establish a retail/commercial development at 84
Poinciana Avenue in Tewantin. The development is to comprise seven
tenancies totaling 809m². Tenancy one is to be utilised by a restaurant
(136m²) and tenancies two to five utilised for retail uses with an
average area of 90m² each. Tenancies six and seven are to be located on
the upper levels and used for office and/or medical purposes (222m²).
• An application to establish a Trade Supplies Store within an existing
building, currently unoccupied and previously used for an indoor sports
centre has been approved. The building on 30 Rene Street in Noosaville
has a floor area of 930m².
• There is a proposal for the conversion of an existing upper floor office
at 28 Hastings Street, Noosa Heads to a shop (123m²).
• An approval to convert a medical centre into a Noodle Bar at 28 David
Low Way in Noosa Heads has been approved.
• An application for the fit-out of a dental surgery at Quamby Place in
Noosa Heads has been approved.
In light of the locations of the proposals, all are likely to serve different
catchments, with the exception of Noosa Civic which would serve a broad and
overlapping catchment to the subject proposal.
As the subject development represents the only convenience-type centre
proposed within the Noosaville, Noosa Junction, Noosa Heads and Tewantin
area, it would therefore serve a largely distinct role and function to all of the
existing and proposed retail facilities. Moreover, it would address the shortage
in convenience retail facilities. Like all of the proposed developments, it would
represent only a minor increase in the future retail provision of Noosa Shire.
2.4 SUMMARY
A reconnaissance of the retail network in the Noosaville area indicates the
following:
• There is a lack of convenience retail facilities within the area,
particularly those that operate extended trading hours and are
convenient to Noosaville residents and visitors.
• There are few moderately priced food services in the local area.
• The only supermarket in Noosaville is estimated to be trading well
above average and the centre in which it is located (Noosa Village) has
no vacancies.
• Existing shops and food outlets on Gympie Terrace mainly cater to
higher price points and are not within a walkable distance for many
